For starters there’s Jongleurs at Castle Wharf [map] on Canal Street, which is part of the hugely popular
national chain. Set in the former British Waterways Warehouse
overlooking the canal, this well designed venue is open
on Thursday, Friday and Saturday until 2am.
The Jongleurs chain has been around for the past two decades,
and in that time has helped to launch the careers of many
famous comedians including Rory Bremner, Graham Norton,
Jack Dee, Harry Enfield and Lee Evans. These days, well
known comics such as Ed Byrne and Dan Antopolski still
appear here, along with stars from the next generation
Perhaps Nottingham’s best known comedy establishment, Just the Tonic [map] at the Cabaret Nottingham on Fletcher Gate, has been wowing
the crowds for over 10 years. This place has been described
as "the best comedy club in the country"
by funnyman Johnny Vegas and regularly plays host to top
names such as Tim Vine and Stewart Lee.
Other venues worth checking out include the Lakeside
Arts Centre [map] on the University of Nottingham campus, which presents
a number of touring comedy acts, and Nottingham Playhouse [map],
